Avery Davis committed to Notre Dame on Saturday, giving the Fighting Irish their fifth commitment for the 2017 class.
March 20, 2016Four-star quarterback Avery Davis committed to Notre Dame, giving the Fighting Irish its fifth commit in the 2017 class.
Brian Kelly added a key piece to Notre Dame’s 2017 recruiting class over the weekend when 4-star quarterback Avery Davis committed to the Fighting Irish.
The Cedar Hill, Texas native is the No. 12 quarterback and No. 134 overall prospect in the 2017 class. He is the fifth commitment for Notre Dame, all of which are rated as four-star recruits.
Davis decided the timing was right on Saturday during a visit to South Bend. He tweeted out the decision in the below message.
Davis’ commitment is an important pickup for head coach Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish. While there’s plenty of quarterback depth and talent on the current Notre Dame roster – Malik Zaire, DeShone Kizer and Brandon Wimbush could start for plenty of teams around the country – it’s always crucial to continue to add to the most important position on the field, especially with a player of Davis’ caliber.
It’s also a big pickup for Notre Dame given the fact that Davis is a top-level recruit in Texas. He’s ranked as the state’s No. 3 quarterback. If Kelly and the Irish want to compete for national titles, strengthening pipelines in the country’s most fertile recruiting grounds is a necessity.
