Five-star offensive tackle Austin Jackson committed to the USC Trojans, as Clay Helton was able to lure the nation’s No. 30 overall player to Los Angeles.

It’s been said many times over the past few months, but USC is back. The latest bit of proof comes on the recruiting trail, as the Trojans were able to secure a commitment from the No. 1 offensive tackle in the state of Arizona.

Five-star prospect Austin Jackson, from Phoenix, committed to USC on National Signing Day.

The Trojans managed to beat out Arizona State, Oregon and Washington for Jackson’s pledge. However, he also held additional offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and UCLA, among others.

At 6-foot-5, 290 lbs he brings the kind of high-octane intensity you want in an offensive tackle — specifically for a left tackle. His arms are long, and his feet are quick. Actually, it’s his footwork that sets Jackson apart from most of the other offensive tackle prospects in this class.

As a run blocker, he’s equally impressive. Jackson has no problem with reach blocks. He’s agile when asked to pull, and he climbs to the second level smoothly before paving a lane for the tailback following him. Plus, he’s tenacious when finishing blocks, burying defenders into the ground.

He’ll fit in perfectly with what Clay Helton wants to do with this Trojans team. The balanced offensive attack with Sam Darnold leading the way will be an excellent opportunity for Jackson to work on his game as a whole and develop as a left tackle.
