Auburn running back Kam Pettway will be in action as the Tigers take on Alabama in the Iron Bowl this Saturday. Pettway had missed the last two games after suffering a leg injury.

Auburn is getting back a major offensive weapon going into this week’s Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa against Alabama.

Running back Kam Pettway, who leads the Tigers with 1,106 rushing yards on the season, will be active against the Crimson Tide after missing the last two games due to an injury, head coach Gus Malzahn said in his weekly press conference.

“He is one of our impact players,” Malzahn said. “He is one of the best running backs in all of college football and one of the best in our league. Any time you have a guy like that back, it changes things and it changes things in a good way for us.”

Late in Auburn’s victory against Vanderbilt on November 5, Pettway broke away from the Commodores defense but ended up pulling up lame.

Originally serving as a backup, Pettway became the main man for the Auburn offense halfway through the season after an injury to starting tailback Kerryon Johnson. In the seven games he has seen action, Pettway has gone for more than 100 yards on the ground six times, including a whopping 236 yards against Ole Miss.

This is good news for an Auburn offense that has been banged up recently, including quarterback Sean White whose status is still up in the air for Saturday’s rivalry game. White injured his shoulder in the win against Ole Miss on October 29 and hasn’t appeared healthy since. He sat out the first half of the Vanderbilt victory before playing the entire second half, and then struggled mightily against Georgia in the Tigers’ 13-7 loss in Athens. White later admitted that he had re-injured his shoulder during the defeat by the Bulldogs.

Auburn is No. 5 in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 297.82 yards per game. Alabama is No. 1 in the nation in run defense, giving up a measly 68.91 yards per game.
