TCU had a very disappointing 2016 college football season.
But Gary Patterson and his staff remain undeterred, and the Horned Frogs know that success always begins and ends on the recruiting trail.
The Frogs won a big battle with a couple of their Lone Star State foes when four-star South Grand Prairie safety Atanza Vongor gave them a verbal pledge on Saturday afternoon.

Vongor committed to TCU over finalists Texas and Baylor. Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Michigan and other major powers had offered him as well.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Class of 2018 product is ranked as the No. 16 safety in the nation and No. 16 overall prospect in the state. He is known for his physicality, but he also has the athleticism to be successful in coverage. He is a hitter whose size-speed combo help him stand out.
TCU now has four commits in its 2018 class, and this was a big “get” for Patterson and his staff. It not only will help the Horned Frogs’ defense moving forward, but it takes a player away from Texas and some of the other teams that were recruiting him.
As for the Longhorns, Vongor is the second safety target that they have recently missed, as three-star Tulsa Union safety Patrick Fields committed to Oklahoma earlier this month. There is no reason for Tom Herman and Co. to worry, though, as the state has a very deep 2018 defensive back crop.
