Four-star cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. unveiled his top five schools on Wednesday night, and he included teams from the ACC, Big Ten and SEC in the mix.

Before Asante Samuel was making plays for the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons, he was just a kid from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, who played cornerback at the University of Central Florida.

Well, sadly for Scott Frost and the Knights, UCF isn’t in the running for his son, Asante Samuel Jr., who is rated as a 4-star prospect in the 2018 recruiting class.

But on Wednesday night, we did find out whom the young cornerback is considering for his impending college commitment. The St. Thomas Aquinas High School standout revealed his top five schools and included teams from the ACC, Big Ten and SEC. In alphabetical order, Samuel’s final five teams are Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Miami and Ohio State.

The Seminoles, though, are widely considered the heavy favorite to land Samuel. And, considering the additions they’ve made in the past two cycles, their secondary is on the verge of being one of the best in college football.

In the 2016 class, FSU signed three blue-chip cornerbacks Levonta Taylor, Carlos Becker and Kyle Meyers. In the 2017 class, the ‘Noles added 5-star cornerback Stanford Samuels III and 4-star safeties Cyrus Fagan and Hamsah Nasirildeen.

However, don’t count Mark Richt’s Hurricanes out just yet. Samuel’s commitment will be announced this summer, so Miami will try to make up ground and close in on the 4-star cornerback’s pledge.

The ‘Canes have been surging on the recruiting trail during the past few weeks. With the additions of 5-star running back Lorenzo Lingard, 4-star quarterback Artur Sitkowski and 4-star wide receiver Brian Hightower serving as the headliners, Miami has more momentum on the recruiting trail than any other team in college football.

We could be shaping up for a showdown between two classic in-state rivals.
