Jimbo Fisher’s staff can easily be considered one of the best in the country, especially on the recruiting trail, and it proved as much on Thursday.
The Seminoles picked up a huge part of their 2018 recruiting class when 4-star prospect Asante Samuel Jr. committed to Florida State. The ‘Noles beat out in-state ACC rival Miami for Samuel’s pledge, which speaks volumes considering Samuel attends St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale.
He released a statement regarding his decision to commit to FSU over Miami.
“First, I would like to thank God because without him this would not be possible. I would also like to thank my mom and family for always supporting me. Being at this school has always been my dream. I am proud to announce that I will be committing to Florida State University.”
The Hurricanes still hold the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, but now FSU moves up from No. 8 to No. 6 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings thanks to the addition of Samuel.
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound prospect is the son of former UCF Knight and NFL star Asante Samuel. He’s ranked as the No. 31 cornerback in the country and the No. 8 cornerback in the Sunshine State.
The Seminoles now have two cornerback commits, as Samuel joins fellow 4-star prospect Isaiah Bolden, the No. 17 cornerback and No. 161 overall player in the nation.
After having signed Levonta Taylor, Kyle Meyers and Carlos Becker in the 2016 class and Stanford Samuels III, Hamsah Nasirildeen and Cyrus Fagan in the 2017 class, Florida State re-stocked its secondary with elite playmakers.
Now, Samuel and Bolden are in line to join them.
