Four-star running back Asa Martin has a Florida visit set up, and his relationship with JaJuan Seider is what's driving the Gators upward in his recruitment.
March 7, 2017Four-star running back Asa Martin has a Florida visit set up, and his relationship with JaJuan Seider is what’s driving the Gators upward in his recruitment.
Since JaJuan Seider joined the Gators last month, he has wasted little time getting involved on the recruiting trail.
The new Florida running backs coach is narrowing in on the country’s No. 13 running back, and things appear to be trending upward. Asa Martin was not shy in expressing his admiration for Seider when he spoke to Campus Insiders.
Their relationship predates Sedier’s move to Gainesville, and it’s strong enough to make Martin comfortable with the idea of not being the only halfback Florida is recruiting. He’s accepted the idea the Gators will likely sign more than one running back in this class.
Now, the next step is to get the 4-star running back on campus and paint the picture of what life would be like for him should he choose the orange and blue.
“I will be down the 17th,” Martin told Rivals. “I will get down there and check out the campus, and they should be doing a spring practice the second day I am down there. I want to feel the environment on campus, the dorms, and just see, if I went to Florida, would I fit into all the stuff.”
With Jordan Cronkrite transferring away from the program and Jordan Scarlett likely declaring for the 2018 NFL Draft after this upcoming season, Florida will turn to Lamical Perine, Malik Davis and Adarius Lemons to form its next stable of tailbacks. So, if he were to choose the Gators, Martin would be in line for a few early reps.
The depth chart is not overly crowded, and the offensive philosophy fits Martin’s style.
“I like that they run to set up the pass with their offense,” Martin said. “You can’t just run the ball the whole game. Sometimes, you gotta’ get the ball downfield in the air. I like how they run the ball and how often they run it. I like how they throw to the running back too because I feel like I have pretty good hands out of the backfield.”
If the visit goes well on March 17, the table will be set for Florida to take a commanding lead in Martin’s recruitment.
And now that the 4-star running back can envision himself playing in The Swamp, it will be up to Seider to lead the charge and get him to commit.
