Arkansas vs. Missouri prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the SEC matchup between the Razorbacks and Tigers.
November 22, 2016 Arkansas vs. Missouri prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the SEC matchup between the Razorbacks and Tigers.
When: Friday, November 25 – 2:30 p.m. ET
Where: Faurot Field, Columbia, MO
TV Broadcast: CBS
Arkansas used an offensive explosion to outscore and defeat Mississippi State, 58-42, this past Saturday. Running back Rawleigh Williams III rushed for 205 yards and a touchdown while the Razorbacks gained 661 yards of total offense.
Missouri was on the losing end of a shootout in Knoxville as the Tigers dropped 63-37 to Tennessee. Quarterback Drew Lock threw for 320 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice in the loss.
When Arkansas is balanced like the Razorbacks were against Mississippi State, they are hard to stop. Quarterback Austin Allen was on point, throwing for 303 yards and two touchdowns, but the story was the running game, which pounded out 357 yards on the ground. Williams is capable of having big games like this, especially against a Missouri defense that is 118th in the nation, allowing 239.91 rushing yards per game.
Stopping the run has been a problem for the Razorbacks defense, but they catch a break as Missouri running back Damarea Crockett will be out serving a suspension after being arrested this past weekend..
The Tigers will miss the abilities of Crockett running the ball, but Ish Witter will take his place after also having a big game against Tennessee, rushing for 163 yards and a touchdown. Missouri will have some success on the ground, as the Razorbacks allow 216.45 rushing yards per game. That will open up the passing game for Lock, who has been one of the few bright spots in a down year for Missouri.
The Tigers defense, once a staple for the team, has been very subpar this season, to say the least. The unit ranks 116th in total defense and is allowing 477.5 yards and 32.2 points per game. If the Tigers are to have any chance, they’ll have to stop Williams from getting rolling and having another huge game.
Offense: Arkansas – Williams is only a sophomore and is a rising star in the conference.
Defense: Arkansas – Bret Bielema can’t be happy with how his defense has played this season, but it pales in comparison to how bad Missouri’s has been.
Special Teams: Arkansas – Missouri kickers are just 6-for-13 on field goal attempts.
Coaching: Arkansas – Is Barry Odom in over his head as a head coach? It seems so.
Intangibles: Arkansas – Eight wins and the Razorbacks should get a good bowl.
Rawleigh Williams III vs. Missouri rush defense
Will the Tigers defense have any pride left after what’s been horrible season so far? Rawleigh Williams III is licking his chops at the chance to face off against the nation’s No. 118 rushing D.
Spread: Arkansas -9.5
Over/Under: 73.
This game will be perfect viewing on the Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving, as both teams should be able to put up points on the opposing defenses. The difference will be the ability of Arkansas to control the ball on the ground and wear out the Missouri defense, with Williams having a big day behind that huge offensive line that Bielema loves to have in the trenches. Arkansas ends the regular season with a win, while Missouri will need to regroup going into the offseason.
Arkansas vs. Missouri Final Score Prediction: Arkansas 41, Missouri 27
