Arkansas State vs. Louisiana Tech New Orleans Bowl live stream, TV broadcast information, and predictions.
December 18, 2015The Arkansas State Red Wolves will square off with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Dec. 19 for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
After a 1-3 start, the Red Wolves (9-3, 8-0 Sun Belt) finished off the regular season red-hot, winning all eight of their conference games to finish atop the Sun Belt and earn their fifth straight bowl appearance. Arkansas State showed no mercy its last time out, scorching the Texas State Bobcats, 55-17. The Red Wolves scored the games first 20 points and that is all they would need as they coasted to victory. Fredi Knighten threw for 192 yards with two touchdowns and ran in another. Michael Gordon (20 car, 148 yards, TD) led an Arkansas State rushing attack that totaled 343 yards and accounted for five touchdowns on the day. The defense also had its fun with the Bobcats as Money Hunter picked off Tyler Jones in the red zone and returned in 99 yards for a touchdown. With the win, Arkansas State became the second program to win three straight Sun Belt titles outright.
The Bulldogs (8-4, 6-2 C-USA) are appearing in their second consecutive bowl game, the first time they’ve went to back-to-back bowls since 1977-78. Louisiana Tech is looking to bounce back from a loss to Southern Miss that snapped their four-game winning streak and gave the Eagles a berth in the conference title game. Southern Miss took control of this game early and went into the half with a 24-10 lead. Louisiana Tech failed to adjust and were outscored 35-14 the rest of the way. Turnovers were a major issue for the Bulldogs who committed seven on the day and the Eagles were able to capitalize for several of their scores. Turnovers aside, Jeff Driskel completed 27-of-44 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns to make up for a Bulldogs rushing attack that was completely shut down with -2 total yards. Paul Turner and Trent Taylor benefitted from the reliance on the pass game as each receiver topped the 100-yard mark on the day.
Arkansas State and Louisiana Tech will meet for the first time since 1998 and the 38th overall. The Bulldogs hold a 25-12 advantage in the all-time series and have won the past two matchups.
Below is everything you need to know about the matchup, including the New Orleans Bowl online live stream, TV broadcast information, game notes and prediction.
The matchup between A-State and La Tech is a toss-up based on personnel. The difference lies in the current direction of each program. The Bulldogs are still smarting from the Southern Miss spanking, feeling as if they warranted a different December destination. The Red Wolves, meanwhile, are streaking and fired up to close the year with 10 wins for the third time this decade. Knighten and his playmakers will be slightly more potent than Driskel and his supporting cast, outgunning Louisiana Tech in an entertaining and high-scoring matchup in the Superdome.
