October 5, 2015The Arizona State Sun Devils (3-2) look to build on last week’s win over UCLA when the Colorado Buffaloes (3-2) come to town. Check out the Arizona State vs. Colorado prediction and game preview.

The Arizona State everyone expected to see in 2015 was back last Saturday, stunning UCLA in the Rose Bowl. But were the Sun Devils making a cameo in the Pac-12 South race, or are they here to stay? It’ll be interesting to see how they respond in a game with Colorado that’s sandwiched between the Bruins and Utah a week later. The Buffs put up a valiant effort for a half last week against Oregon before falling short, 41-24. With a gauntlet of tough games ahead, this could be the beginning of Colorado’s slide.
The Buffs are the tweener between two marquee games for ASU, so they may not receive the Devils’ undivided attention. ASU has also been plagued by unforced errors, like turnovers and penalties. Colorado, meanwhile, boasts the Sefo Liufau to Nelson Spruce pitch-and-catch combo and has been sneaky good in pass defense, ranking third in the Pac-12.
Now that the Devils have their swagger back, there’s no telling how high this team might go. QB Mike Bercovici is coming off his best game of 2015, and the backfield combo of Demario Richard and Kalen Ballage will soften the Buff D. And an aggressive ASU defense will frustrate a Colorado O-line with a young left tackle and a problem keeping the pocket clean.
Antonio Longino was oppressive from the ‘Devil’ position in the UCLA win, harassing Josh Rosen all night. Expect more of the same this weekend from not only Longino, but also from linebackers DJ Calhoun and Christian Sam and ‘Spur’ Laiu Moeakiola.
It’s wise to be careful not to completely blow the meaning of ASU’s win over UCLA out of proportion. Remember, this is the same squad that was embarrassed by USC just a week earlier. That said, the Sun Devils will bring a ton more confidence into this week’s game with Colorado. And they’ve got the better base of talent as well, including a balanced offense and a frenetic D.
