February 22, 2017LSU head coach Ed Orgeron expects defensive end Arden Key back, but he won’t put a timetable on the return of the Tigers’ star defensive end.
LSU might be getting a defensive force back sooner than later, as head coach Ed Orgeron told Tiger Rag Radio that he expects the star defensive end will return to the team, but he will not put a timetable on when he will return.
“We expect [Key] to be back. He left for personal reasons, and that’s all we’re going to say.”
Key broke a school record with 12 sacks in the 2016 season. He also added 56 tackles while providing nightmares for opposing quarterbacks, offensive lines, and coaches along the way.
Last week, it was announced that Key would be leaving the team indefinitely to handle personal matters.
“In consultation with our staff and his family, Arden Key has decided to take some time away from football for personal reasons. We fully support Arden in his decision and look forward to welcoming him back home to the Tiger family at the appropriate time.”
Key is expected to be a key component for an LSU defense that returns a lot of talent from a unit that finished No. 10 in total defense, giving up 314.4 yards per game while allowing a 5th best 15.8 points per game. With spring practice starting on March 11, there’s a good chance that Key will miss some — if not all — of the team’s workouts before its spring game on April 22.
