The Appalachian State Mountaineers will travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on the South Alabama Jaguars in their final regular season game of 2015.

The Mountaineers (9-2, 6-1 Sun Belt) come into this one with the Sun Belt Conference’s best overall record and have won eight of their last nine games. Last time out, Appalachian State bested Louisiana-Lafayette at home by 28-7. The Mountaineers piled on 28 unanswered points until the Ragin’ Cajuns avoided the shutout with a late touchdown. Appalachian State got 230 yards out of its run game thanks to Jalin Moore and Marcus Cox, who combined for 182 of those yards and three touchdowns. The success of the running game took some pressure off Taylor Lamb, who finished with a quiet 172 yards passing and a touchdown.

The Jaguars (5-6, 3-4 Sun Belt) are looking to put a stop to their two-game losing skid and become bowl eligible for the third year in a row with a win Saturday. South Alabama’s latest loss came from Georgia Southern, who blew out the Jaguars 55-17 last week. South Alabama was competitive early as it held a 14-7 advantage in the second quarter, but the lead was brief with the Eagles outscoring the Jags 48-3 for the rest of the game. Georgia Southern overpowered the South Alabama defense by rushing for 489 yards on the day. Six of its seven touchdowns came on the ground. Tyreis Thomas (8 car, 37 yards, TD) was the lone bright spot for the Jaguars, who gained just 136 total yards of offense.

Saturday’s matchup will mark just the second time Appalachian State and South Alabama have played one another. The Jaguars took the first meeting 47-21 last year in Boone.
