AP Top 25 Look Ahead: What Each Team Faces In Week 17

AP Top 25 look ahead and what each team faces in Week 17 of the 2015-16 college basketball season.

    March 1, 2016

March is upon us, and with it comes the home stretch of the 2015-16 college basketball season. Conference tournaments for some even start this week.

Here’s what each team in the top 25 faces for Week 17.

Week 17 AP Top 25 Look Ahead

    1. Kansas (25-4)

KU reaches the Big 12 title for the 12th straight time, and it should stay sharp this week at Texas and at home vs. Iowa State.

    2. Michigan State (24-5)

Forget what the standings say. This is the best team in the Big Ten, and Sparty could end the season on a six-game streak with Rutgers and Ohio State coming this week.

    3. Villanova (25-4)

The loss to Xavier wasn’t bad, but this is a team that has yet to win over the critics. Home games vs. DePaul and Georgetown won’t provide answers.

    4. Virginia (22-6)

Huge win over North Carolina has given the Cavaliers a boost. Beating Louisville on the last day of the regular season could be even bigger.

    5. Xavier (25-4)

Brutal letdown at Seton Hall keeps Xavier from gaining respect. Creighton is up next.

    6. Oklahoma (22-6)

The Sooners look spent at this point in the season and have gone 3-4 in their last seven. Home game vs. Baylor will either stop the bleeding or continue the fall.

    7. Miami (FL) (23-5)

Hurricanes have won seven of their last eight and showed a lot of heart by knocking off UVA and Louisville last week. Road trip to Notre Dame will be another chance to shine.

    8. North Carolina (23-6)

UNC looks beyond vulnerable right now and can’t find any consistency. Games vs. Syracuse and at Duke will keep the Tar Heels sharp.

    9. Oregon (23-6)

Wiped out both Washington and Washington State, but now the Ducks need to finish strong at UCLA and USC.

    10. West Virginia (22-7)

Just 3-3 in their last six, but the Mountaineers can finish on a high note vs. Texas Tech and at Baylor this week.

    11. Louisville (22-7)

The spoilers missed a chance to really be disruptive by losing to Miami (Fla.), but they’ll have another shot March 5 at Virginia.

    12. Indiana (23-6)

Hammered Illinois last week then won a share of the Big Ten title without playing a game over the weekend. Battles at fading Iowa and at home vs. fading Maryland await.

    13. Utah (23-7)

The Utes added a huge resume builder by knocking off Arizona, and with just Colorado left on the sked, Utah is looking solid.

    14. Maryland (23-6)

Terps have lost three of their last four and hope to stop the skid at home vs. Illinois and at Indiana.

    15. Purdue (22-7)

The Boilers continued their trend of alternating wins and losses, but they have to go back-to-back in the win column with Nebraska coming up.

    16. Iowa (20-8)

So much for Iowa being a feel-good story this season. The Hawkeyes are in free-fall and need to bounce back vs. Indiana Tuesday before heading to Michigan Saturday.

    17. Duke (21-8)

You never know what you’re going to get when the Blue Devils take the floor. The 14-point loss at Pitt was surprising, but Duke can bounce back at home vs. Wake and UNC.

    18. Arizona (22-7)

Back-to-back losses at Colorado and Utah has taken the steam out of the Wildcats, who finish with homers vs. Cal and Stanford.

    19. Baylor (21-8)

Baylor missed an opportunity vs. Kansas last week, but two more chances to raise eyebrows await with Oklahoma and West Virginia coming.

    20. Texas A&M (22-7)

Texas A&M has counted a four-game losing streak with a four-game win streak, and it can push that to six with a trip to Auburn and a homer vs. Vanderbilt on the slate this week.

    21. Iowa State (20-9)

Huge win over Kansas State was good for the soul, but the Cyclones need to close strong with Oklahoma State and a trip to Kansas coming up.

    22. Kentucky (21-8)

The Wildcats are supposed be gearing up for a March run. Instead, they have dropped two of their last three and look disinterested.

    23. Texas (19-10)

Texas hopes to build on the respect gained with the win over Oklahoma when it takes on Kansas Monday night.

    24. SMU (24-4)

SMU has been taking care of business of late, and UConn and Cincinnati remain for the Mustangs.

    25. California (21-8)

The Bears are getting hot at the right time after winning seven straight, but this week features tests at Arizona and at Arizona State.
