Four-star outside linebacker Alston Orji spoke highly of the Texas Longhorns and Tom Herman after his unofficial visit to Austin.
March 7, 2017Four-star outside linebacker Alston Orji spoke highly of the Texas Longhorns and Tom Herman after his unofficial visit to Austin.
The ultimate task lying ahead of Tom Herman is not an easy one. He’s trying to take one of college football’s most prestigious programs and turn it around as quickly as possible.
The key to that process is to recruit like a mad man, and Herman appears to be off to a solid start.
He’s already caught the attention of 4-star prospect Alston Orji, from Rockwall, Texas. The country’s No. 9 outside linebacker and No. 99 overall player spent this past weekend in Austin for an unofficial visit at Texas, and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
From the facilities to the coaches, Orji enjoyed being in the thick of it all. And, as he told 247Sports, he’s seriously considering the Longhorns. Orji may not have a list of top schools quite yet, but Texas is recruiting him hard, and Herman has gotten off on the right foot with the 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker.
“I really like Coach Herman. He is a high-energy guy. I liked that about him. I’m really interested to see how they do this season. I think he can help them get it turned around,” Orji said.
Texas, for awhile, held a silent commitment from K’Lavon Chaisson, but the former 5-star edge rusher ended up signing with LSU on National Signing Day. The Longhorns can’t afford to lose out on recruiting battles like that, especially with high-profile prospects.
Texas signed only one linebacker in the 2017 cycle, and that was 3-star recruit Marqez Bimage, who flipped from Houston after Herman took the job in Austin.
Getting out in front for Orji is important, but Herman and his staff need to make sure they close the deal.
