It was, to say the least, a very strange year in Eugene, the Ducks’ first following the departure of Heisman QB Marcus Mariota. At midseason, Oregon was 3-3, having already lost to Utah and Washington State at Autzen Stadium. There was a palpable buzz that the run was over. And then QB Vernon Adams got healthy and the Ducks suddenly became the Ducks again, winning their final six games, including over divisional champions Stanford and USC. If Oregon can continue to build on its torrid close, it’s going to reach 10 wins for the eighth year in a row.
It’s a shame that the Horned Frogs were never quite right. With injuries and other problems from the very start of the year, there were always obstacles to overcome each and every week – even more than for most teams. Even so, TCU managed to get out to an 8-0 start before the 49-29 loss to Oklahoma State. Star QB Trevone Boykin was hurt, star WR Josh Doctson was hurt, it seemed like there was always a major player hurt. But now comes the best part of the bowl season for teams like 2015 TCU – there’s time off. The Horned Frogs desperately need the time off, and now they’ll get it and should be as sharp and as good as they’ve been all year long. At least that’s the hope.
