Alabama's impressive, record-setting streak of being favored in football games, dating back to 2009, has finally been snapped.
September 30, 2015Alabama has been favored in 72 straight games, and now the streak has come to an end.
It’s not shocking, but its still amazing to see it officially on paper – the Crimson Tide are picked to lose a game by nearly a field goal.
The last time Nick Saban’s club was an underdog came against the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship on December 5, 2009, when Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer led the top-ranked team in the nation as five point favorites. The second-ranked Crimson Tide came out victorious 32-13 and went on to win the national title.
During the record-setting 72 game streak, Alabama has gone 62-10 straight up while going 24-10 against ranked AP squads. Against the spread in those 72 games, Alabama has gone 39-33.
Against SEC foes, the Tide have gone 36-8 straight up and 25-19 against the spread.
Two losses by the first week of October would surely be a nightmare, and most did not project the experts in the desert to go against the Tide this early in the season.
