Alabama vs. Clemson: Recruiting Class Comparison For 2016

Alabama vs. Clemson recruiting class comparison for 2016 as the national championship game nears.

    January 11, 2016

Alabama and Clemson are recruiting for more college football national championship appearances.

The moment has finally arrived. We’re hours away from embarking on a seemingly never-ending journey of complaining about how we don’t have any football to watch.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers are ready to go toe-to-toe in the College Football Playoff’s national championship game.

Nick Saban’s Tide will take on its achilles heel: a mobile quarterback. Deshaun Watson will have his plate full, too, though. Alabama’s defense is one of the best in the nation, and the defensive line is (arguably) the best in the game.

But while both Saban and Dabo Swinney have been placing their Xs and Os in preparation for the game, they’ve also been keeping an eye on the recruiting trail.

With that, let’s take a look at where the two powerhouse programs stand with the youngsters.

    Alabama Football Recruiting Class

    • Total Commits: 17 total commits
    • 5-star: 1
    • 4-star: 9
    • 3-star: 7

The Crimson Tide’s 2016 class is slotted into the No. 8 spot in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.

Jonah Williams is by far Alabama’s biggest commit. He’s the No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 20 overall recruit, and he’s joined by JUCO offensive tackle Charles Baldwin, from Brooklyn, N.Y., who is the No. 1 player at his position.

That’s just what Saban needs: more offensive linemen.

The Tigers are sitting at No. 11 in the rankings and landed a big commitment from Rahshaun Smith. The nation’s No. 2 inside linebacker chose Clemson at the Under Armour All-America game, and he’ll be joining 5-star recruit Dexter Lawrence, the No. 2 defensive tackle.

Swinney also has Tavien Feaster on board, and it’s always nice to have the No. 1 all-purpose back locked up in the class.
