Alabama vs. Clemson odds, including point spread, over/under line and stats to know for the national championship matchup.
January 5, 2016The big game is finally upon us. After four months of play, the College Football Playoff national championship is set for Monday at 8:30 p.m EST.
Alabama and Clemson will battle it out for the right to hoist the championship trophy.
The Crimson Tide rode an 11-1 regular season and 29-15 SEC title game win over Florida to the Cotton Bowl semifinal. Nick Saban’s team then manhandled the Michigan State Spartans, 38-0, to advance to Glendale, Ariz.
The Tigers escaped the season as the only undefeated FBS team and are 14-0 after beating North Carolina in the ACC title game and Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl semifinal.
Alabama, led by the machine that is Nick Saban, is no stranger to championship games. The Crimson Tide have won three of the past six titles, and a fourth would give Saban his fifth championship and cement him as a coaching legend.
Clemson hasn’t tasted title success since its lone championship in 1981. If Dabo Swinney derails Saban’s run to another title, he’d instantly have a seat among the top coaches currently in the game.
Alabama brings the No. 2 total defense and No. 51 total offense into the game. Clemson sports the nation’s No. 6 total defense and No. 11 total offense.
But don’t let the Tide’s substantially lower ranking on offense fool you. Jacob Coker and Derrick Henry lead an efficient and punishing attack.
On the other side of the ball, Deshaun Watson is the man in charge. Alabama is going to have to find a way to contain the dual-threat quarterback. Watson is a nightmare for opposing defenses. Lock down the wide receivers, and he’ll beat you with his legs.
Early betting action has pushed the Alabama vs. Clemson odds more in the Crimson Tide’s favor. The point spread opened at -6 and has since moved to -6.5 and -7 at several different sports books, according to Vegas Insider. The Over/Under has also increased, shifting from 48.5 points to anywhere between 50.5 and 51 (as of Friday).
