Alabama linebacker Tim Williams was arrested Thursday morning by University of Alabama Police Department, according to a report.

There’s some trouble in Tuscaloosa. Two days before Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide host Mark Stoops’ Kentucky Wildcats, the Tide’s starting JACK linebacker has gotten himself in hot water.

Alabama senior linebacker Tim Williams was arrested early Thursday morning in Tuscaloosa by university police in a parking lot of a Publix on University Blvd. Two campus officers reportedly smelled marijuana, which became stronger as they approached the vehicle. Williams, with someone else in the driver’s seat, told the officers the car was not his, according to WBRC FOX6 News.

The officers searched the car and found “a clear twist plastic bag holding marijuana in the center console,” which the driver claimed as his and a friend’s.

A Glock 41 pistol was found under the driver’s seat. When asked if he had a permit for the weapon, Williams said he recently purchased the pistol while back home in Louisiana, and that he believed the receipt for the gun acted as a permit to conceal and carry, which it does not.

Williams was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, booked into jail at 2:09 a.m., and released on a $300 bond.

The Alabama linebacker tweeted later on that morning in response to the incident.

Williams has tallied only six total tackles so far this season with 1.5 sacks, but he stood out in the Crimson Tide’s championship run in 2015. During his junior season, Williams posted 11.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks, and he emerged as a key cog in the Alabama defense.

He’s been projected to be a first-round pick, and isn’t the only highly-touted Crimson Tide player to have been arrested this year. In May, former 5-star recruit Cam Robinson, who’s projected to be a top-10 pick and one of the first offensive tackles taken in the 2017 NFL Draft, was arrested with defensive back Hootie Jones, a former 4-star recruit.

They were charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and illegal carrying of a weapon, while Robinson was also charged with felony possession of stolen firearms. The charges against Robinson and Jones were dropped in June, and the Alabama program disciplined them behind closed doors.

Alabama has not yet released a statement on Williams’ status for Saturday’s game against Kentucky or beyond that.

UPDATE (3:50 p.m. CT): Nick Saban has issued a statement on Williams’ arrest, saying, “This kind of behavior is not condoned in our program. We are currently in the process of reviewing all of the information. Once we have a complete understanding of the situation, we will determine what we need to do in terms of the appropriate discipline.”
