Potential Alabama-Ohio State national title odds have been released, as well as several other matchups, and they heavily favor the Tide.
October 23, 2016Potential Alabama-Ohio State national title odds have been released, and they heavily favor the Tide.
While Alabama is largely considered the No. 1 team in the nation right now, an argument can be made for No. 2 Ohio State. Several other undefeated teams can also be considered, most notably Clemson and Michigan, however the consensus is far and wide that the Crimson Tide and Buckeyes are, at present, the teams to beat.
There’s still half a season left to play, and things will likely change drastically, but that hasn’t stopped Vegas oddsmakers from drawing lines on hypothetical matchups.
The Golden Nugget has released several potential opening spreads (via oddsmaker Aaron Kessler) featuring Alabama, and the Crimson Tide would be heavily favored in all, including against Ohio State. As of now, the Golden Nugget has Nick Saban’s squad at -7 vs. Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes.
Alabama would be -7.5 vs. Clemson, -8.5 vs. Michigan, and -12 vs. Washington.
Before the Crimson Tide start dreaming about the College Football Playoff, however, they’ll have to take care of business this Saturday against fellow undefeated SEC team Texas A&M. The Aggies are 6-0 and tied with Alabama atop the SEC West at 4-0 in conference play. But to put just how dominant Vegas oddsmakers view Alabama as into perspective, the Tide are listed anywhere between -18 to -19 point favorites over the Aggies.
The winner will take a front seat on the road to Atlanta, while the loser will need outside help to reach the conference title game. That being said, the CFP committee will have an interesting decision to make should the loser between the Aggies and Tide go undefeated the rest of the season.
