With the calendar flip from October to November, the college football stakes get turned up another notch. We are officially on the home stretch of the regular season, and two of the teams with College Football Playoff aspirations — No. 7 Alabama and No. 4 LSU — will meet in Tuscaloosa on Saturday in this week’s heavyweight matchup.

It won’t be the first top 10 showdown between the Crimson Tide and Tigers with national title implications on the line. During the 2011 season, LSU and Alabama met in Bryant-Denny Stadium undefeated and ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The Tigers escaped what was billed as the “Game of the Centruy” with a 9-6 win. Two months later, they faced off in the BCS national title game, where the Tide manhandled LSU 21-0 to win the championship.

This year the Tigers have the nation’s most potent weapon in running back Leonard Fournette. He’s the kind of athlete you only see once in a generation. He is big, he is bad, and he can single-handedly carry a team on his back.

But if there’s one unit that knows how to prepare for a player like Fournette, it’s a Nick Saban and Kirby Smart-coached defense. Alabama bottled Fournette up last season, limiting him to 79 yards on 21 carries and no scores.

Come Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET, Fournette will have a chance to make another Heisman Trophy statement with the nation watching.
