In order to be great, one must never accept complacency. Nick Saban knows all about staying great.

The Alabama head coach is never finished making tweaks and analyzing the intricate details to his high-powered machine that is Crimson Tide football.

The latest adjustment came in the form of Mike Locksley, whom Alabama has hired as an offensive analyst, according to AL.com.

Locksley served as the Maryland offensive coordinator from 2012 to 2015. When Randy Edsall was let go in October after starting the season 2-4, Locksley served as the interim coach (going 1-5 to end the season).

Under Locksley, the Terps saw their points per game slightly rise from 24.3 to 25. On defense, their points allowed dropped from 34.7 points per game to 34. 2. So, despite the unsightly record, there was an improvement in on-field production.

Maryland ranked No. 87 in total offense, No. 31 in rushing offense and No. 109 in passing offense last season.

Before his time at Maryland, Locksley served as the head coach at New Mexico from 2009 to 2011, where he took the Lobos to a 2-26 record.

Saban has a knack for scooping up individuals who may have positional merit but flamed out as head coach (see: Lane Kiffin). Obviously, the Crimson Tide head man knows something most of the world doesn’t.
