Alabama football recruiting targets with National Signing Day approaching. The Crimson Tide is looking to cap off another stellar class.

    January 29, 2016

A look at five Alabama football recruiting targets with National Signing Day approaching.

Life sure is swell for Alabama. Nick Saban just led the Crimson Tide to its fourth national championship during his tenure.

The work for a title run begins on the recruiting trail, and Saban is very well versed in talking high school athletes into spending their collegiate careers in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

With impact players like Derrick Henry, Reggie Ragland and A’Shawn Robinson all taking their talents to the NFL this year, the time has come for Saban to reload his roster.

The Crimson Tide sit in the No. 9 spot of the 2016 class rankings with 18 total commits, but there are still plenty of options on the board for Saban to round out this year’s haul.

Below are the top five targets for Alabama football recruiting with under a week left until National Signing Day.

Mecole Hardman Jr., 5-star, No. 2 ATH, No. 16 Overall

Biggest Competitors: Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide

Mecole Hardman Jr. can be a game-changing player on defense, but he’s far too talented to not give the ball. He’s as quick as lightning. Alabama is the leader for his commitment right now, but it’s trying to hold off Georgia and Ohio State.

Derrick Brown, 5-star, No. 4 DT, No. 9 Overall

Biggest Competitors: Georgia Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers

Derrick Brown is a big, physical defensive tackle with the ability to wash away running lanes and level running backs. A supposed top three was released with Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee, but Brown quickly refuted that report. It was a shock not to see Georgia in the mix, who many believe will land his commitment. This is going to be a heated race right down to the end.

Ben Davis, 5-star, No. 1 ILB, No. 11 Overall

Biggest Competitors: Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs

Ben Davis is everything you want in an inside linebacker. He’s fast, explosive, physically intimidating, and he has every running back on his radar. He seeks and destroys ball carriers. Saban has put in the work, and it seems as though Davis will end up at Alabama. Georgia and Auburn aren’t ready to give up yet, though.

Lyndell “Mack” Wilson, 4-star, No. 2 OLB, No. 46 Overall

Biggest Competitors: Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs

Lyndell “Mack” Wilson is a super athletic outside linebacker who gets his thrills from high-speed collisions with ball carriers. He can shut down the running game and drop back in coverage, and he’ll get early playing time wherever he ends up at. Right now, it seems as though Alabama will come out on top. Wilson was a Crimson Tide fan as a kid, and in spite of Georgia’s recent push and the Gators being his “leader” for a while now, this is Saban’s race to lose.

Demetris Robertson, 5-star, No. 3 ATH, No. 23 Overall

Biggest Competitors: Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Georgia Bulldogs, Stanford Cardinal

Demetris Robertson is the definition of explosive. Quick doesn’t even begin to describe how fast he is. He makes plays on both sides of the ball, too. On offense, he compares himself to Odell Beckham Jr. On defense, he believes he’s more like Tyrann Mathieu. Alabama has some work to do in order to land his commitment because it seems as though Notre Dame is leading right now.
