Former Alabama quarterback Blake Barnett is already receiving a lot of interest from Texas A&M and other programs for his services starting next season.

It didn’t take long for former Alabama quarterback Blake Barnett to start receiving interest from other schools.

Per 247Sports, Texas A&M has already reached out to Barnett, who enrolled at Palomar Junior College on Thursday after leaving the Crimson Tide program in late September.

The Aggies will be looking for a quarterback with Trevor Knight graduating after this season. They have 4-star quarterback Kellen Mond committed to the 2017 class, and folding Barnett into the mix would allow Mond time to redshirt and learn Kevin Sumlin’s offense rather than being thrown directly into the SEC West pressure cooker as a true freshman. That said, wherever Barnett signs, he will still miss the first few games of the season due to NCAA rules stating he must sit out one calendar year from the day he transferred.

Texas A&M is not the only school clamoring after the former 5-star prospect. Florida, Miami, and Michigan State have also shown some interest, while many Pac-12 schools – UCLA, Washington, Cal, and Oregon – could be contenders for the quarterback’s services.

The California native is considered a 4-2-4 transfer, which means he left a four-year school to go to a two-year school and plans on returning to a four-year-school. Due to this, Alabama cannot block him from transferring to a school, even one in the same division like Texas A&M.

The decision could be made soon, if Barnett’s high school coach Jeff Steinberg is correct.

“I could see him narrowing it down fairly quickly and trying to make a decision by Christmastime,” Steinberg said.
