Michigan picked up a commitment from a highly touted 2018 defensive back Friday, as Atlanta prospect Myles “Spider” Sims pledged to the Wolverines on Twitter.

Myles Sims’ official visit to Michigan in March gave him all the information he’d need to make a decision about his future. He made it official Friday.

Sims posted on Twitter that he has committed to the Wolverines and will play for head coach Jim Harbaugh in 2018.

“I would like to give special thanks to all the universities for offering me full scholarships to play on the next level and the coaches I have built relationships with!!!,” Sims wrote in his Twitter post. “With that being said, I would like to accept my offer and commit 100% to the … University of Michigan.”

Sims, whose nickname is “Spider,” is the No. 80 overall player in the nation by Scout.com and No. 11 cornerback in the 2018 class. He’s the top-ranked player at his position in the state of Georgia.

“When I sat down and re-evaluated that trip to Michigan and compared it with others that’s when I realized it,” Sims told Rivals.com. “I just thought Michigan had everything I was looking for in a school so why wait any longer?”

Sims won’t be locked into playing cornerback at Michigan, as he also has the ability to play safety. He’s 6-foot-2 and weighs 173 pounds, a frame that is plenty useful as a defensive back to get physical when necessary. It also helps him defend passes that might be out reach for others at his position.

Sims’ speed leaves a bit to be desired, but that might be the only knock on one of the best defensive backs in the country.
