Ohio State Football Recruiting Class Overview

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Jim Harbaugh and Michigan made a ton of noise thanks to all the theatrics and all the big moves, but Ohio State did its part. It was just another typical top five overall recruiting class getting just about everyone Urban Meyer really, really wanted to pick up. With more four-star talents than anyone in the Big Ten, it made up for the absence of too many elite of the elite superstar, top 100 talents – at least compared to some of the other elite programs.

The Class Is Heavy On …

Defensive ends. The Buckeyes got their normal share of next-level talents across the board, but the standouts are on the defensive front starting with Nick Bosa – Joey’s brother – and continuing with Jonathon Cooper and Malik Barrow. This wasn’t a defensive tackle-heavy class – the Buckeyes went after the pass rushers with this crew. The receivers – Austin Mack and Binjimen Victor – aren’t bad, either.

The Star of the Class Is …

DE Nick Bosa, 6-3, 265 – It’s not a bad thing when your older brother is about to become a top NFL draft pick and you have similar skills. Nick might not be quite the athlete that Joey is, but he has the ready-made size, the power, and the pass rushing motor to become another superstar. All the typical big teams made their push including Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, and just about anyone else you want to name, but Bosa ended the drama early on in the process – he was a Buckeye from the start.

The Team’s Biggest 2016 Depth Chart Hole Is …

The defensive line. There’s enough talent to help fill in the gaps in the receiving corps and on the offensive line, and there are always all-star prospects waiting in the wings, but even for Ohio State the loss of Joey Bosa hurts, along with tackles Tommy Schutt and Joel Hale. Everything will be more than fine, but it might take a little bit to come together, especially with the loss of Joshua Perry from the linebacking corps.
