2016 Kansas State Football Recruiting Class: Kansas State didn’t come up with a stellar class, mostly because it didn’t have a ton of openings. But the program knows how to succeed with players who fit the system.

Kansas State Football Recruiting Class Overview

Kansas State came up with a very good class last season, but this one isn’t as big and it’s not full of enough stars. The program has lived off of two-star talents who grow into the mold, and Bill Snyder has always been the coach who does more with less, but it would’ve been nice to have come up with a few top recruits to build around. It’s a matter of a lack of bodies – there aren’t enough of them for a program that needs the numbers.

The Class Is Heavy On …

Wide receivers. JUCO transfer Byron Pringle should be the one who rises up right away. He’s a 6-2, 212-pound physical target, while Isaiah Harris is a smallish, quick speedster who can eventually grow into a kick returner. D.J. Render and Corey Sutton add a little bit of bulk to the receiver class.

The Star of the Class Is …

QB Skylar Thompson, 6-2, 175 – He needs to beef up a bit, and he’s not a power passer in any way, but he’s a nice thrower who can move and make things happen – he’s a baller who fits the Kansas State style. While he’s not quite for every offense – he’s just not quite big and bulky enough – but Iowa State and Kansas were also interested.

The Team’s Biggest 2016 Depth Chart Hole Is …

The offensive line. The Wildcats always know how to fill in the holes on both sides of the ball in a hurry, but they’re going to have to replace four starters up front losing Cody Whitehair at left tackle – you don’t get better losing a starting NFL offensive lineman – along with everyone else but center Dalton Risner. Coming up with a few new good starting defensive linemen wouldn’t be a bad idea, either.
