Iowa State Football Recruiting Class Overview

It’s a really, really good class considering 1) the Cyclones probably had the worst recruiting class in the Big 12 last season and 2) it had to undergo a coaching change with Matt Campbell not getting a ton of time to work. Even so, he turned in a nice few weeks hitting the JUCO ranks hard to go along with a few surprising four-star gets.

The Class Is Heavy On …

Defensive backs. The offensive line might have gotten the most stars with Sean Foster and Keenan Forbes two future starters, but the secondary got the most bodies. Arnold Azunna and Deshunte Jones headline a deep group with plenty of prospects and lots of speed and versatility. If the coaching staff can find two of them to provide a little bit of depth right away, it’ll catch a break.

The Star of the Class Is …

OT Sean Foster, 6-8, 295 – He’ll need a little time to grow into his frame, but he’s got long arms and the right make-up to eventually be a good pass blocking left tackle. Ole Miss and Nebraska were the big names that wanted him, but he had his pick of several ACC and Big Ten teams. Iowa State might have signed its foundation for the line.

The Team’s Biggest 2016 Depth Chart Hole Is …

The offensive line. Can Sean Foster play right away? The Cyclones lose four starters up front including OT Brock Dagel and center Jamison Lalk. For a running game that worked so well throughout last year, this is going to be a problem. Fix this, and everything else should be set on both sides of the ball for a better season.
