With plenty of JUCO transfers, the Bulldogs are trying to revive their place in the Mountain West fast. This is a smallish class of prepsters, and there isn’t too much coming in on offense to help the cause right out of the gate, but considering the disaster of last season, several jobs are open and for the taking by a more talented newcomer.
The offensive line. The Bulldogs went with the beef up front with several very large blockers at both guard and tackle. Quireo Woodley should turn out to be the best of the bunch once he adds a little bit of good weight, but this is more about a strength-in-numbers group rather than a line of stars. The defense went big in the back seven with several safety-sized options to play around with.
TE Donte Coleman, 6-54, 220. He looks the part, and while he might not have elite speed he has the hands and athleticism to become one of the Mountain West’s best all-around tight ends. The Texas native was wanted by the Longhorns, TCU, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Iowa, and several Pac-12 and Mountain West schools. There might not be much flash to his game, but he can turn into a wonderful safety valve.
Offensive tackle. There might be several concerns about the defensive front and linebacker – Fresno State always seems to need help up front – but the O line needs the most help, especially at tackle. It’ll be a spirited fight this offseason for spots, needing to fill three up front and with plenty of shuffling to come.
