Bret Bielema has figured out how to get the right guys to do what he needs to do, and that starts with the lines. Great for the defensive front, he got a great class full of D linemen that should be able to hold up in the SEC West wars, while never forgetting that his style of play depends on the offense being able to grind away with a massive O line. It might not be an elite class like most of the SEC teams brought in, but the program won its share of fights.
Defensive linemen. McTelvin Agim was the best of the lot with the potential to work inside or out, while Austin Capps is a true interior presence and Briston Guidry is a good get for the interior. Throw in Jonathan Marshall on the end, and the Hogs should be set up front for a while.
RB Devwah Whaley, 6-0, 195 – While Agim might turn out to be the biggest get if he can be what the D line needs as an all-around producer, Whaley is the likely star considering what the offense needs and who productive the backs are. He might not be a blazer, and he might not be a huge thumper, but he should be ultra-productive behind the massive offensive front. Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas were in the running for the Texas native.
The offensive stars. Three starters are gone off the offensive line with LT Denver Kirkland taking off early for the NFL, but that’s the least of the problems. The Hogs lose star TE Hunter Henry and RB Alex Collins early to the big leagues, and they have to replace QB Brandon Allen, who came up with a surprisingly strong season as a downfield bomber. Fortunately, nine starters are back on defense.
